Modelling

The logical method

Mathematical modelling means expressing a real question in the language of mathematics, allowing the question to be solved using mathematical tools. The starting point is a real problem and, from this, we develop a mathematical problem, an image of reality, which we can solve with mathematical methods. We then interpret this mathematical solution in terms of its real meaning and check to determine its relevance to the actual problem.

Model criteria:
• Correctness
• Admissibility
• Practicality

Different modelling approaches, deterministic or stochastic, discrete or continuous, are combined in a manner appropriate to the given task.
